SPX Graphics for Zoom — Documentation
App Overview
SPX Graphics for Zoom is a Zoom plugin, available in the Zoom App Marketplace, that extends the functionality of Zoom calls by giving users the ability to control live, dynamic graphics overlaid right on top of their videos.
The app is a controller that lives in the same window as your Zoom call. From there, you can control different graphics — each with its own unique functions and options — with a single click of a button. Graphics can be as simple as a name tag displaying your name and company, or a fully functional visual tool such as the Slides graphic or Meeting Agenda.
SPX is a developer of the open-source broadcast graphics controller software, SPX Graphics Controller, used in TV broadcasts and live productions around the world. We brought that same professional-grade graphics technology right into Zoom.
The app mainly helps in four ways:
- Branding — Use customization options and/or our custom graphics service to brand your Zoom calls professionally.
- Meeting Productivity — Graphics like Meeting Agenda and Meeting Timer help keep meetings efficient and on track.
- Presentation — The Slides graphic lets you present without screen sharing, keeping your face front and center.
- Engagement — Graphics like Emoji React and Simple Text help keep participants engaged without interrupting the speaker.

App Structure
The app UI has three main tabs:
- Base Graphics — A set of essential branding graphics, always available.
- Additional Graphics — Graphics added from the Store appear here. Free users get one instance of each; Pro users can create multiple layers and sets.
- Settings — Includes Base Design selection, logo upload, image uploads, and the Reset & Restart option.
Base Graphics & Base Designs
Base Graphics
Base graphics are the essential graphics included with every account:
- Nametag — Digital business card to display name, job title, company, etc.
- Logo — Overlay your logo image.
- Text Ticker — A scrolling list of text and tags.
- Fullscreen — Full-screen overlay with text and an optional countdown timer.
These graphics are available to all users, though some features (custom logo, fullscreen countdown) are Pro-only.
Base Designs
Base designs are "skins" or "themes" for the base graphics. The app comes with two by default: Starter and Zebra. Additional designs can be purchased from the Store.
To change the base design, go to the Settings tab and choose from the dropdown. Pro users can first add designs from the Library tab.
Each base design can be further customized by changing its colors or selecting from variants. Different designs may also come with companion graphics that extend the base graphic functionality for specific use cases.
Additional Graphics
Additional graphics are "visual tools" that enhance your Zoom experience beyond branding. They can be purchased individually from the Store, or accessed in full with a Pro subscription.
To add an additional graphic:
- Open the Additional Layers tab.
- Click the + icon.
- In the popup, check the graphics you want and click Apply.
Meeting Agenda
Make your meetings more productive with a visual agenda everyone can follow.
Enter your agenda items in the graphic options and click Play. The Play button becomes a Next button to step through each item on your own schedule.
Options: Title, subtitle, items (one per line), position (left/right), timing (manual or auto-interval), panel width, progressive reveal, colors, background opacity.
Use case ideas: Meeting agenda, class schedule, list of questions, presentation talking points, ranking reveal (using Progressive Reveal), as part of a presentation (Pro Layers and Sets).
Best used together with the Meeting Timer.
Meeting Timer
Keep your meetings on-time with a visual progress timer.
Enter the ending time of the meeting and the graphic handles the rest. Automatic visual reminders appear throughout — including a distinct change in appearance when 2 minutes remain, signaling time for recap and wrap-up.
Options: Topic (meeting title), ending time (hour + minutes), minimize speed, colors, done region color, size.
Special control: Click Next to toggle between the "open" and "closed" (minimized) view of the timer.
Best used together with the Meeting Agenda.
Emoji React
Express yourself with 100+ animated emojis — without interrupting the speaker.
Choose from a library of professionally animated emojis and display them over your video. Useful for webinars, interactive Q&As, and classrooms.
Options: Emoji selection, position (corners), dim background.
Simple Text
A simple text bubble to communicate non-verbally — a free graphic for all users.
Type a message and it pops up in a bubble over your screen. Ideal for situations where you don't want to interrupt the speaker.
Options: Message text, size, colors.
Usage examples: "You're muted!", questions, topic labels, URLs, announcements, classroom interaction (students type answers).
Simple Slides
Create slides with an image and text for Zoom-native presentations. No screen sharing needed.
Upload images, then build slides with text and custom colors. There's also a "polaroid stack" style for a more playful look.
Options: Number of slides, image (from your uploaded images), text per slide, slide style, colors, image scaling.
Special control: Click Next (triangle button) to advance to the next slide.
Usage examples: Product demos, photo album sharing, financial reports, online class presentations.
QR Code
Share links and information instantly with a QR code overlay.
Enter a URL and the graphic generates a QR code on screen. Style it to match your colors and fonts.
Options: Main text, sub text, URL, layout shape, position, size, font, colors, background opacity.
Usage examples: Website, social links, app download link, links to documents or videos.

Tips & Tricks
- Emojis anywhere — Use your OS emoji picker in any text field. On Windows, press Win + . to open the emoji popup.
- Sort layers — The rendering order of additional layers can be changed by dragging them in the "Add layers" dialog.
- Base layers order — Base layers can be displayed over or behind additional layers. See the Settings tab.
- Same graphic on multiple layers — Combine two instances of the same graphic (e.g. two emoji on screen at once).
- Countdown in Fullscreen — There is a countdown option inside the Fullscreen message graphic.
- Check the Store regularly for new add-ons and base designs.
Troubleshooting
SPX Graphics for Zoom is technically complex and relies on several systems working together. If you encounter problems, work through this checklist from top to bottom:
- Stop and restart your camera in Zoom. This forces the graphics renderer to reload. Wait for the SPX Graphics Loader to flash over your video before issuing new commands.
- Refresh the app. Click the three dots (∘∘∘) in the top corner of the panel and choose Refresh App. Wait a few seconds — do not rush commands.
- Close and restart the app. Click the three dots and choose Close, then go to My Apps and relaunch SPX. This reconnects to the backend and reloads all settings.
- Reset settings. In the Settings tab, open Reset and Restart, check the checkbox, and click Reset. This removes all your own content (name, title, text fields) and restores factory settings. It does not remove any licenses.
- Restart the Zoom app. Some deep component states can only be cleared by fully closing and restarting the Zoom client.
- Clear App Data Cache. In Zoom Settings, find the option to clear app data cache. Log out and back in to your Zoom account afterwards.
- Reinstall the SPX app. Your user profile is stored in the SPX backend — a reinstall will not delete it or your licenses.
